As we are heading into a new school year, I know we can let ourselves worry about what reading level our kids are on, did they finish their math homework, did they brush their teeth this morning? Or their hair????? But I truly believe the greatest thing we can teach our kids is to BE KIND. To accept people as they are, to LOVE peeps of all shapes, color, sizes and abilities.

I get nervous each year as Ruby gets older that other kids will notice she is a little different then they are, that they may not be able to understand her completely -or she doesn’t understand what they are talking about-so they won’t engage with her and be her friend. Or that she still LOVES Moana and that’s not so cool anymore, so they make fun, or they wonder why she gets pulled or for speech therapy and has special instruction during class.

So far NONE of these scenarios has happened and she has thrived at school. I used to worry so much about the academics and the reading and all of the “keeping up” (which we still do our very best) but my main focus? I really just don’t want to raise a couple of jerks. ???? I hope they always show kindness and love even on hard days and I know that all starts with our family at home. I think we can all make the biggest difference this way. I am going to make a big effort to do some activities with them this school year to give them an opportunity to flex their “kindness muscles” so they can grow up big and strong❤️

I would love some ideas and activities that some of you have done at home or in the community that we could try this school year!!!
