Rockin’ Recipient Mary Borman been selected to represent the state of Arkansas in the National Special Olympics in 2018! She has her first month of college completed at the University of Arkansas, which her family reports was a super steep learning curve for all involved but they are seeing a huge transformation in Mary already!
I got this update from them last week:
“Hi Liz, i wanted to get you an update on how Mary’s doing at the University of Arkansas. I can keep it simple and say “amazing!” or go into more details? The detailed version is that she was totally scared the first few days (campus is 27k students) but gradually she’s gotten accustomed to it and by the end of the first week was starting to navigate more comfortably but most importantly she had a noticeable uptick in her self-confidence. Now, after about a month she’s so much more independent than we’ve ever seen her! I truly never would have thought we’d see such large scale changes in so short a period of time. I think in the end this is all about the opportunities provided by inclusion. what would any of us be like if we’d spent our lives in a secluded bubble? College is turning out to be the next big (huge!) step in our daughter’s full inclusion future; what a ride! Thanks again for helping make this possible!”
Oh, my heart!!! We are so proud of you Mary!! Keep on rockin’ it!!
