Goodness, taking these photos took me back to my own high school days. I LOVED high school…painting homecoming banners, making mums (do they still wear those, y’all?) heading to the football games, kickin’ it with friends. Now that I am a mama bear I want all these things for BOTH my girls. I think all parents want their children to be accepted by their peers, have friends and lead lives filled with wonderful experiences that help them grow into the best lil’ humans they can be. Inclusive settings can help make this vision a reality. I get asked a lot by parents “how do I get my kid to college?” and the #1 thing I hear from parents of our recipients who are rockin’ the college scene is that inclusion played a big part in their independence and confidence levels. It looks different for everyone, y’all. Because each of us is different. But I will continue to strive for the most inclusive setting I can for Ruby because once she graduates from high school? There is no segregated world, and I want her to have the confidence to follow her own passions and dreams.
