Squee – got an email from 2017 Rockin’ Recipient Jason Rogers!! ???????? I ❤ hearing from our Rockin’ Recipients and learning about what they’ve been up to!!
Jason writes: “First I want to say thank you for giving me a scholarship for this past year. Your support helped me attend the IDEAL Program at Lipscomb University. I took classes in Creative Dramatics for Children, Intro to Social Work, Methods of Teaching Sports, Lifetime Wellness, Technology for IDEAL, Employment Skills, Adult Living Skills. I lived in the dorm and was a member of Best Buddies and Young Life. My internships were at the Tennessee Department of Education and at a local school where I helped in the kindergarten classroom. I went to TN Disability Day on the Hill and made a video about how to speak to your state representative. I also went on a mission trip to Rockport, TX with Lipscomb to help with hurricane relief. And I just got back from helping as a buddy at a Young Life Camp in N.C. I participated in the Dolphins Swim Team where I won gold and silver medals at the special Olympics state meet. I graduated from IDEAL in May and my plan is to go back to Lipscomb for a 3rd year and I will be living in a duplex with friends and have a paid job. I was selected to serve on the Partners in Policymaking Leadership Institute next year for the TN Council on Developmental Disabilities. I could not have done this without your support. THANK YOU!!!”
OK – I just love everything about this email!!! Love that he came here to TX to help out with the hurricane relief effort in Rockport…love the list of amazing classes and internships and Special Olympics medals and…gah!!! I seriously can’t, y’all!!! Our Rockin’ Recipients just make me so proud, and they are so dang inspiring!!! ????????????????
