Kari Balazs’s sweet mama shared this lovely moment with us earlier this semester – a pic of Kari, home from college for the weekend, working on her literary narrative. I just ❤️ the quiet, contemplative feel of this pic so much, and ❤️ how it so perfectly captures this young woman doing what college students everywhere do all the time – being studious, focusing on their work & their learning. Or, ya know, cramming last-minute for a test or an overdue paper – cuz that’s a valid part of the college experience too ????

Our Rockin’ Recipients might attend workshops or classes, or they might enroll in university programs designed for students with intellectual disabilities, or they might pursue an associate’s or bachelor’s degree at a two- or four-year college…and they might need certain supports to help them make the most of their time there…but whatever they do, and however it might look a little different from someone else’s college experience – for the most part, their college lives & courses & experiences are the same as everyone else’s. And that gives me so much happiness and hope. I hope it does the same for all of you!!

Kari is one of our 2018 Rockin’ Recipients, and she’s a freshman at Judson College – learn more about her here: https://rubysrainbow.org/recipients/kari-balazs-judson-college-kirill-clayton-davis-scholarship-award/
