“If he keeps faking stomachaches, let’s go ahead and schedule him for a colonoscopy. Maybe that will take care of it.” 😂
What types of resources are available for someone with a disability who is looking to find employment? Honestly, I am learning a lot about this as I go since Ruby isn’t quite there yet, but the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Program is a good place to start. The VR program provides vocational and rehabilitative services to individuals with disabilities to help them prepare for, secure, regain or retain employment. The hope is that these services can reduce or remove barriers to employment. Some of the services include job counseling, referral service, on-the-job training, transportation, interpreter, supported employment services and help finding a job. Another big part of VR is helping to transition from school to work. This can be a challenge for ANYBODY, but these services are there to help people with all types of disabilities. Programs vary by state, but the core services are required by law!
I am not sure what all of this will look like when it’s Ruby’s time to go get her dream job, but it’s nice to be armed with the available resources when the time comes!
