This is a great way to kick off my New Year!! Got this fantastic update from Alex Goodman’s mom and this is everything I can dream of when it comes time for Ruby Doobs to spread her wings and fly!

Hi Liz,

Alex is doing great! I can hardly believe that she is half way through her junior year at Georgie Tech! Proud to say that she got all A’s last semester! Going to college has been such a great experience, I must tell you the experience has been much the same as those of my other two. She has handled living with others (and you know how girls can be), maintaining her apartment, cooking, grocery shopping, navigating a college campus(in downtown Atlanta), getting to class, completing assignments, trying to stay on a budget(that’s hard) and has been learning to be more of a self advocate for herself. Part of the program at Georgia Tech is career exploration so the students have jobs. Alex interviewed and then got a job at the Campus recreation Center( a paying job) and she also worked as a office helper. This semester she is supposed to work with at Bark in the Park which is a pet groomer and boarding facility which is associated with the Ark Animal Hospital.

Alex leads a very independent life at school. If Alex had not gone away to a college program we would not have known that she could do what she is doing. It is amazing what your child can do without you breathing down their neck!
Thank you and your family Liz for starting this organization! I so admire your passion and positive outlook!

Keep spreading the word that it’s ok to set the bar high because you never know what can happen!

Happy New Year!
Paula
