This statement jumped right out at me when I read Kayla McKeon’s scholarship application last spring: “I speak to many different groups, school children, nurses, colleges, future teachers about my abilities and the abilities of my differently abled friends, and let them know that Down syndrome is not a sad diagnosis.”

Right ON, Kayla!!!  And you’re exactly right – peeps all over the place who are rockin’ that extra chromosome are valued and valuable, and they are thriving – and our Rockin’ Recipients are proof of that!! ????????

Kayla is one of our 2017 Rockin’ Recipients, and she is truly rockin’ it at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY. Her goal for the future is to earn her BA in psychology – so AWESOME!! I have no doubt you can do it, Kayla!!! This lady is all sorts of accomplished, y’all – she’s an inspiring motivational speaker, a Global Messenger for Special Olympics NY, and an active self-advocate who was awarded the National Down Syndrome Society Self Advocate of the Year award in 2016.  So ah-mazing!!!
