Rockin’ Recipient Brandon Gruber is certainly #changingthefaceofbeauty. He recently rocked the catwalk for Bezgraniz Couture at LA Fashion Week, was the first male model with Down syndrome to walk the runway at Fashion Art Santa Cruz and continues to open hearts, change perceptions and raise expectations for people with Down syndrome. When he is not busy strutting his stuff on the runway, he is attending a local community college and also runs his non-profit, 321 LIFE+1 Project (www.321life.com). His mission with his projects are to “give access, opportunity, experience and HOPE to individuals and parents, so many can realize their dreams.” So far he has helped over 300 individuals with his projects ranging from helping fellow students in need attend prom and college visits, providing school backpacks and supplies and even giving scholarships for Special Needs Parent Trainings. He just sent me this update:
“Recently, I modeled for two fashion shows; one for Fashion ART Santa Cruz and LA Fashion week. It was very fun! I love to hit the runway and network. This fall I started college. College is really exciting because I am learning new things and meeting new people. I really love my CG 54 class because it is helping me to plan my future. My Acting and Kinesiology classes are also great because I would like to
get back into acting and I love to work out with weights every day.
One of my immediate goals is to do more public speaking to help new parents and teachers to believe in their student or child. This is something that I love to do because I am changing perceptions and inspiring others. Next week, I will be a co-emcee for a buddy walk and last weekend I spoke for a group in Portland. By preparing me to become an independent person, I want to continue taking classes to
improve my skills and speech.”
Brandon’s motto? To work hard, be kind to others every day and to BE YOURSELF. Words to live by, Brandon!! Keep on rockin’ it!!!
