“To be honest, after 11 years of being Ruby’s dad, I rarely ponder her having Down syndrome. Most days, she’s just my sweet, goofy, hard working, hilarious little girl. But when I do stop and think about it, it’s hard not to be impressed with how far she’s come. From a 3 pound 12 oz, frail preemie who spent her first 21 days in the NICU, to a full grown teenager who reads, does math, understands sarcasm, has life-long friendships, has been on national TV and magazines, who gets recognized at the airport and in other cities when we’re on vacation, it’s hard not to be impressed. She works hard, she loves her life, and she’s changing the world. But most days, I’m just her dad. And most days, she’s just my daughter.”
