So Kelle Hampton and I went into this trip really wanting to know what independence may realistically look like for our own girls one day and what types of supports are in place to make it successful. We know each family is different, just as each person with Down syndrome (or ANY person!) is so different, but getting to hang with Ali and her family and seeing how they have made it work just really filled our hearts with hope for the possibilities. We know it’s not all rainbows and unicorns, but one thing we all agree on is that her time in college at WCU University Participant (UP) Program really helped to prepare her for the more independent life she was dreaming of!
