Truth: Second grade has been hard, y’all. I started to see that “gap” everyone talks about getting wider this year. Not necessarily with her friendships (which is one of the most important things, in my opinion) but with all the academics. It moves so fast and the concepts get harder and the words get trickier (thanks English language ????)…and Ruby had her first “Reflection Time “ paper sent home this week for not listening to teachers and following directions.

I mean, don’t get me wrong…this lil lady is totally rockin’ the second grade and we are so proud of her, but there is always that fine line of pushing her just enough to reach her potential but not trying to change who she is. It’s so hard as a parent to find that line with ANY kid, but I think with Ruby I have had to be extra focused on it to be sure she does get the right support and tools she needs to be her best self. We had some talks with her about her Reflection Time and she had a better day yesterday (last pic) but there are lots of honest conversations lately about meeting her where she’s at and what we can do to keep her motivated and confident and continue to be hungry to learn. Fortunately she has an amazing team at school❤️ And I know this looks different for all kids, so I take a deep breath and step back and have faith that we ARE doing enough. That we are NOT screwing this up. And have faith in HER. We always have faith in her, and sometimes I think that’s all you need. ❤️
