“The only way to have friends is to be one.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

One of my biggest fears for Ruby when she was born wasn’t about her learning abilities or even her capabilities…My greatest fear was her not being able to build meaningful, life-long friendships. Equal friendships that matter. Was she going to fit in? Will she have the love and respect of those around her??

Those that know me well, know that my friends are my world. I would go to the ends of the earth to help them in any way I can, and consider them my family. I wanted so desperately for her to have these connections with others and, not only to feel love and acceptance, but to give it in return. I know now these fears were silly. Even at the ripe ol’ age of five, I see her friendships blossoming and growing. I see her ability to love and care for others, to deeply love and care for others, is so transparent and pure. She has friends that love her because she is funny, smart, silly, and even opinionated. They love her because she is RUBY…and she makes those around her feel special and loved, just as any good friend should 🙂

Stay tuned for an inspiring story of life-long friendship!!
