Meet Austin Underwood. He runs his own business in Ft. Worth, Texas and is living his dream. His mom said that it all started with a determined young man with Down Syndrome and the desire to be a Chef.

At age 21 he attended a vocational program at Eastern New Mexico University designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Since Austin had never learned to read, he was not a good candidate for a Chef job, but he quickly learned skills to be an excellent Prep Chef in the University cafeteria. His love of food had him yearning to own his own restaurant. Some 16 years later, Austin is taking his show on the road selling “Underdawg Hot Dogs” in his Traveling Dawgmobile!

Austin now how a successful food truck business and also loves to give back to the community. One of his most popular dawgs is “The Straw Dawg” which is a Vienna Beef Frankfurter with Austin’s own “DAWG SAUCE” (a raspberry chipotle BBQ sauce), Real Cooked Bacon Bits and sprinkled with a mound of crunchy French’s Fried Onion Straws. He says that “Straw is Law!” and it is a definite crowd pleaser. You can bet your bottom dollar Ruby and I will be hitting up the Underdawg Dawgmobile next time we are up that way!!!
