Mia is this year’s recipient of the Ruby’s Rainbow Sophia Whitney Scholarship Award. This fall she begins her first year in the ROAR program at Washington State University, where she plans to study music, communications, public speaking and independent living skills. She also hopes to study Japanese, so she can talk more with her family in Japan. One post-graduation goal is to teach music to children.
She says, “My dream for college is to be independent. I want to focus on getting to places by taking public transportation by myself and using a map in case I get lost.” She is also looking forward to making new friends and finding great clubs to join on campus.
Mia’s hobbies include making music and films. She is very proud to have been a state champion in Special Olympics gymnastics. She says, “I am very excited to start my future at WSU ROAR!! I want to be in a field where I feel comfortable and enjoy myself. I’m doing as much as I can to start my future ahead of me.”
