Hendrik is a grateful first-time Rockin’ Recipient. This fall he will follow in his two older siblings’ footsteps by going to college, beginning his freshman year in the culinary arts program at Shepherds College. He plans to graduate college with the skills he needs to have a meaningful job and live independently.

The third of four children, Hendrik was homeschooled since birth. This experience provided a unique opportunity as Hendrik learned alongside his siblings and other students at co-op classes and on field trips.

As the sole extrovert in a family of six, Hendrik exudes confidence and enthusiasm. These God-given character traits pave the way for him in all situations. He is his own best advocate as an individual with Down syndrome. He is an accomplished Special Olympics athlete who participates in bowling, basketball, swimming, track and field, and softball. He is also active in flag football, karate and tennis.

Hendrik loves watching football videos and has attended two Green Bay Packers games at Lambeau Field. As a Cadet Airman in the Fox Cities Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol, Hendrik learns leadership development, aerospace education and emergency response training. He is most proud of his hard-earned promotion to the rank of Cadet Airman First Class.

Hendrik volunteers regularly for his church and community. He is a piano student and works at a goat farm as well as at Chick-fil-A. With great exuberance, he anticipates the next stage of his education, and knows he will thrive at Shepherds College.

We believe in you, Hendrik! We are so proud of you!
