Hallie is a two-time Rockin’ Recipient and this year’s recipient of the Ruby’s Rainbow Hughens Family Scholarship Award. She is a second-year Destination Dawgs student at the University of Georgia. She had a fabulous first year in the program, where she enjoyed taking courses in financial planning, career development, and health and wellness, as well as voice lessons in the School of Music. She especially loved making new friends in college, and going to movies and UGA sports events with them.
This year, Hallie will be interning with a local community theater and learning skills that will help her achieve her dream of working with kids and music. Her advice for other students with Down syndrome is, “It is important to start early and do things like be part of your IEP meeting, so you won’t be too shy.”
We think taking charge of your own education is great advice, Hallie! You rock!
