Stephanie is a three-time Rockin’ Recipient and this year’s recipient of the Ruby’s Rainbow Tegh Singh Scholarship Award. After completing a year in community college and then her first year in the ROAR program at Washington State University, this fall, Stephanie begins her second year at WSU, where she is taking courses in hospitality and hotel management. She has also enjoyed taking fine arts and Spanish classes.

Stephanie is proud to be developing her independence, life and employment skills in college, and she loves taking advantage of the social and fitness opportunities at school, such as playing soccer with ROAR friends and taking Zumba classes with classmates and professors. She would love to work in the field of nutrition after college.

Her professors and mentors describe Stephanie as a hardworking and charismatic student. Stephanie’s advice for other college students with Down syndrome is not to be afraid to try new things. She says, “College can be a scary place but it is so much fun!” Her advice for parents is to support their child’s independence and enjoy watching them grow.

That is excellent advice, Stephanie! You rock—we believe in you!
