Sarah is a three-time Rockin’ Recipient attending the RiverHawks program at Northeastern State University. She is very excited this fall to be part of the first senior class of Oklahoma’s first college program for students with intellectual disabilities. She says, “I love college!” She hopes to become a history teacher someday, since history is her favorite subject.

Sarah serves as secretary for the student chapter of the National Education Association. She has also volunteered for the past five years at a camp for children with special needs; she loves working with children and helping them have fun.

Her professors and mentors describe Sarah as hardworking, independent and a joy to work with. Sarah wants to serve as a mentor for other students with intellectual disabilities who are pursuing college. Her advice for other students with Down syndrome who are considering post-secondary education is, “You can go for your dream. You have to study and work hard, but you can do it.” That is great advice, Sarah! We believe in you—we can’t wait to see you rock it all the way to graduation!
