Marlea Joa is this year’s Ruby’s Rainbow Lucy Givnish Scholarship Award recipient, and she will be attending Bethesda College of Concordia University this fall. She has been active in Special Olympics bowling and swimming, and went to the state swim meets for two years. She has taken hip-hop dance classes for six years and piano lessons for eight, and was on the high school swim team for four years. She also has an extensive volunteer history including reading to elementary school students and cleaning the local Meals on Wheels kitchen. She loves dancing, swimming, playing with her dog, watching dance and hair styling videos, and watching Disney shows and movies.
Marlea plans to study independent living so she can gain the skills she needs to live with roommates and take public transportation to work. She also loves to travel and hopes to visit New York City and Barcelona someday. We think you rock, Marlea!
