Lucy Sturman is a two-time Rockin’ Recipient and this year’s Ruby’s Rainbow Ella’s Excellent Scholarship Award recipient. She will head back to Northern Virginia Community College this fall. She recently co-authored a book with her sister titled Enabled: A Memoir by Ceci and Lucy Sturman, about their childhood together and how Down syndrome has more fully enabled their family. The book includes both poetry and prose and is available on Amazon. In March 2019, the sisters spoke together at the ReelAbilities Film Festival, hosted by The Jewish Community Center of Fairfax.

Lucy loves reading, creative writing, journaling, listening to music and traveling. She also loved her theatre classes at NVCC and hopes to become an actress someday. She says, “My advice for someone younger with Down syndrome who has a dream of attending college is to read, write, and explore your imagination whenever you can. My encouragement is following your dreams, let yourself be creative every day, and don’t be afraid to fail.” Amazing advice, Lucy — keep on rockin’ it at NVCC!
