2019

Lucy Haugland is this year’s Ruby’s Rainbow Keagen Paulson Scholarship Award recipient. She will be heading to Bethel University’s BUILD program this fall, where she plans to study independent living skills, nutrition, reading and time management. She recently graduated from Vector West Transition Program at Hennepin Technical College and earned her ServSafe Food Handler certificate through the National Restaurant Association by scoring 98% on her food handler training exam. In 2018, she was crowned both Minnesota Miss Amazing Jr. Miss Queen and National Miss Amazing Jr. Miss Princess, and also earned the Gold Service award for serving nearly 300 volunteer hours between August 2017 and June 2018. The same year, she won the Minnesota Gymnastics Hall of Fame Award. She works at a local supermarket bagging groceries and stocking shelves, and has an extensive volunteerism history in libraries, hospitals, churches and police departments in her community.

Lucy learned American Sign Language in order to communicate with classmates at her school who were deaf and hard of hearing. She is also an avid gymnast who has won many medals. Someday, she hopes to have a career as an office assistant in a large company. Lucy, we think you rock!
