2019

Elizabeth Carpenter is this year’s Ruby’s Rainbow Trawick Family Scholarship Award recipient and will be attending the LIFE program at Coastal Carolina University this fall. An avid swimmer who taught herself to swim at age three, she has won gold, silver and bronze medals in swimming in Special Olympics. She swam on her high school varsity swim team and just completed her 13th year of swimming with a local summer league, and she hopes to continue swimming at CCU. In high school, Elizabeth was first runner-up for Homecoming Queen and was the first student with a disability at her school to be nominated to the court. She was active in Girl Scouts as well as Band of Buddies and Drama Club, and has also worked for the past year at a local hardware store.

Elizabeth’s goal in college is to learn more about animals, because she loves both dolphins and dogs and hopes to work with them someday. (She even kissed a dolphin once at Sea World Camp!) She says, “I know I can do college because I can do anything.” We believe in you, Elizabeth — keep on rockin’ it at CCU!
