Colton is beginning his first year in the Rock Life program at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. In his scholarship application, he wrote, “I have always wanted to go to college like my cousins and friends. I want the chance to try different jobs. I like babies, animals and live performances. At college I hope to have the chance to work at all of these and decide what I like best.”
Colton has done extensive volunteer work with organizations ranging from Special Olympics to a local preschool and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. He currently works three jobs, as a food service assistant, an Extended School Year teacher’s assistant, and a greeter and bus person in a café. He shared in his application that “I love working. My customers love me too. I am very independent. I promise to make you proud.”
