Jonathan (who goes by Jonny) will begin his first year this fall as an Aggies Elevated student at Utah State University, where he plans to. His goal is to become a self-advocate, live on his own and get a job.
In high school, Jonny received the Unsung Hero Award as well as the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award from the Tongan Society of America. He is active in theatre and is also an avid CrossFit enthusiast. He has served as Assistant Scout Master with the Boy Scouts for the past year, and has done volunteer mission work for several years with his church and at his local food bank. He loves doing Polynesian dance, especially the Haka.
In his scholarship application, Jonny wrote, “I love to give service and help people. I love my friends and want to help whenever I can. It is important to me to keep my promises.” He also wrote, “I want people to respect me and know that people with disabilities can learn and contribute.” You inspire us, Jonny! We know you’ll keep rockin’ it at USU!
