In 2019, our Maddie arrived and surprised us by rockin’ an extra chromosome. Since then, she’s filled our lives with pure joy, love, and a reminder to focus on what truly matters. We feel lucky to have her and firmly believe that every family needs a Maddie!
We support Ruby’s Rainbow because we want the world to see what we see: that Maddie is amazing and capable. She is resilient and excels at music, imitating, problem-solving, and social skills. She deserves an opportunity to gain independence and contribute meaningfully to her community!
Our family also spreads awareness about the awesomeness and potential of people with Down syndrome through our new non-profit, Project HAPPIE (Help All Preschoolers Play in Inclusive Environments – projecthappie.org). Beyond that, I work as a grant writer for a medical school that focuses on underserved populations, and my husband is a university administrator for the local undergraduate institution. We’re also busy playing chase and hosting dance parties with Maddie and her older sister Kate (aka Kate the Great).
We’re excited to join this awesome group of people spreading awareness about the capabilities and general awesomeness of people with DS! We’re also in awe of the Rockin’ Recipients who work so hard and accomplish so much. Keep dreaming big!
