I am Nicole Rossato. I am married to the world’s best (and hunkiest) husband and father, Gaston Rossato. I am a proud “Mami” to Sienna, age 4, and Milan, age 20 months! Milan blessed our little tribe with an extra chromosome.
Since I could remember, my father, Carlos Trueba, was involved with the Down syndrome community in Miami, FL. He was president of the Board of Directors for The Learning Experience for many, many years. The Learning Experience was one of the first special needs schools in Miami. Down syndrome was always part of my life.
I was also very blessed to have met Andy Miyares, who is my age and also has Down Syndrome. He showed me that no challenge is too small and that no matter how many chromosomes you have, the sky is the limit. Andy holds over 50+ Special Olympic medals and holds multiple Swimming World Records in the Special Olympics.
God introduced me to Down syndrome at a young age to prepare me for this moment. We are blessed to have Milan in our lives, and we are happy to share her light and love with everyone.
I choose to take Ruby’s Pledge because social media is a funny thing. I have seen through the eyes of “extra cool mommies” like Liz and Kelle (who are the coolest) and met and connected with other mommies directly who share a little homie with an extra chromie. This tribe is EVERYTHING to all new mommies who are embarking on their journey with DS.
I see Ruby and the wonderful person she is growing up to be, and I hope one day to shake that little women’s hand and thank her for everything she is doing.
I would like to give a big thanks to our ultimate support system, my parents, Carlos and Betty, and Gaston’s parents, Marilin and Lucas, and all of the other Milan Groupies out there! Thank you to all of you who have been there for our family on this very special journey.
