In April 2018, we welcomed our beautiful daughter, Ava, into the world. She arrived on my 33rd birthday, and she was perfect. She was rocking an extra chromosome…but we already knew that! We had found out that Ava had Down syndrome 13 weeks into my pregnancy.
That was when my search started. The search for information. The search for the experiences of others. The search for friendships rooted in, and solidified by, a common thread that so few have the privilege of knowing. The search for affirmations of what I already knew – that though the world may often underestimate her, my daughter is capable of all the same things as someone with 46 chromosomes.
Enter Ruby’s Rainbow. Following along and witnessing these recipients flourish while gaining independence and invaluable life experience has made my heart sing.
I see my daughter’s face and future in every lucky scholarship recipient, and I feel absolutely privileged to be able to contribute to someone’s future, through Ruby’s Rainbow.
