Kara Smith

Hi! I am Kara Smith and my husband, Derek, and I live in Bothell, WA, with our 3 daughters, Sydney (25), Brooklyn (22), and Delaney (18). I have had a heart for children with disabilities for as long as I can remember. From volunteering in special-ed classes in elementary school, to getting my college degree and teaching certification in Early Childhood Special Ed, to teaching Developmental Kindergarten, to volunteering at Seattle Children’s, to being involved with Unified Sports (integrated bowling and soccer at our high school) with my youngest, and volunteering with Night To Shine, I have spent a great amount of time with people with Down syndrome. They are some of my favorite people!

I found Liz Platcha’s Instagram account and heard about Ruby’s Rainbow. I love supporting an amazing organization designed to encourage people with Down syndrome to pursue their big dreams of going to college. I am excited to be on the Pledge Committee for the first time this year!
