Maddy Acken is heading into her sophomore year at UNCW’s Inclusive Futures Program this fall as this year’s Ruby’s Rainbow Jack Kotal Family & Friends Award recipient, with an interest in caregiving and graduation expected in 2028.
Meal planning, including doing her own grocery shopping and cooking, is an accomplishment Maddy is deeply proud of, a real step toward the independent living she’s working hard to build.
Maddy fills her free time with art, writing, listening to music, cooking, and swimming.
