Emily Bernacki: Independence College by On My Own of Michigan

Emily is this year’s recipient of the Ruby’s Rainbow Arehart Family Scholarship Award. This fall, she begins her first year at Independence College by On My Own of Michigan, where she plans to study independent living. She looks forward to gaining job skills so she can pursue competitive-wage employment someday. Her future goals include successfully living on her own with a roommate in an apartment, and working part-time at a good job that she enjoys.

Emily loves dancing and has taken dance lessons since she was about six years old. She now takes adult ballet classes and is a member of the Repertory Dance Company—the highest level a student can achieve—at her dance studio. She has also won many medals in swimming with Special Olympics of Michigan. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, Peloton rides, traveling, shopping and spending time with her friends and family.

Emily has many dreams, but her biggest dream has always been to go to college and live independently. While attending Independence College, she will be living in an apartment with a roommate and support, attending classes, and working at a job internship. She can’t wait to get started!
