Sophia Notaro
2026
Sophia Notaro is heading into her sophomore year at St. Joseph’s University’s PACE Program in Philadelphia this fall as this year’s Ruby’s Rainbow Naklicki-Toolan Family Scholarship recipient, studying Early Childhood Education with graduation expected in Spring 2029.
Sophia graduated from both Marple Newtown High School and Delaware County Technical High School in June 2025, where her tech school focus was Early Childhood Education and she gained hands on experience working with children in the Head Start program. In high school, she was voted Homecoming Queen, played on the bocce team, and participated in Best Buddies. Her first year at St. Joe’s kept her just as busy, balancing three classes, campus activities, and dorm life.
Outside of school, Sophia works as a hostess at a local restaurant and stays active in Special Olympics basketball and Challenger Basketball, both as a player and as a buddy to younger participants. She loves music, dance, movies, musicals, travel, and spending time with friends. Her goal for after graduation is meaningful employment working with children in a school setting, along with living independently.
Sophia is most proud of how far she’s come and the positive impact she’s made on the children she’s worked with. She wants to thank all the therapists, teachers, and “cheerleaders” who have supported her journey, with special thanks to Mrs. T, Mrs. S, and Ms. Sherry. Bring on a wonderful sophomore year, Sophia, you’re an inspiration!
