A More Positive Outlook Because of their Child with Down Syndrome.

“Haven’t you heard, ‘Brows are the new Black’, Nella.”
They say that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and I believe that even more now then I did before I had Ruby. I get the incredible opportunity to see life through her lens…and there is a reason why we are tagged #theluckyfew. There was a study done at Boston Children’s Hospital and among 2,044 parents or guardians surveyed, 79 percent reported their outlook on life was more positive because of their child with Down syndrome.
They also found that among siblings ages 12 and older, 97 percent expressed feelings of pride about their brother or sister with Down syndrome and 88 percent were convinced they were better people because of their sibling with Down syndrome. I see the pride in Ruby’s big sis every. single. day.
My favorite? The one that evaluated how adults with Down syndrome felt about themselves. 99 percent responded they were happy with their lives, 97 percent liked who they are, and 96 percent liked how they looked. WOW!! I sure wish the general population felt this awesome about themselves…don’t you?!
I look at my daughter everyday and you know what I see? Unlimited potential and beauty. A hilariously funny, smart, and capable little girl who is going places and bringing something beautiful into this world just by being her.
I hope the rest of the world sees it too!
