He turned 51 this year, and I love his story so much because it shows that we are all life-long learners and it is never too late to go for your dreams. He has been living independently for over 20 years and he says his “dream is to become a great motivational speaker and help my friends with disabilities follow their own dreams.” From the sound of his latest letter to me it sounds like he is living out his dream and life to the fullest:

Hi Liz,

I have been very busy this year and I am starting to live my dream.
On May 9th I graduated from Jefferson Community College where I learned how to become a great motivational speaker. On May 13th I was invited by Indiana Down Syndrome Association, Global Down Syndrome, Riley Hospital for Children, and Down Syndrome Family Connection to be the key note speaker at their conference this year “Beyond Limits: Reaching High for Down Syndrome”. It was held in Indianapolis at the Riley Hospital for Children. I talked about how everyone needs to be a self-advocate and have goals in their life.

I was also invited to talk to over twenty counselors at a summer camp for individuals with disabilities at Notre Dame Indiana. I talked to them about how to help people attending the camp live a full life and how to help them have fun.

I am also working for the ARC of Indiana in a program called “My Life, My Choice”. I interview individuals with disabilities who live in nursing homes and teach them how they can also live on their own like me.
I am now living my dream as a professional motivational speaker and helping others live their dream.

Thank you Liz for helping me reach my goals.

Your Buddie
Mark J Hublar

Guys. This literally makes me smile so big my cheeks hurt. We all continue to learn, grow and dream…and people with Down syndrome are no different. I imagine my own Ruby standing behind a podium one day, speaking, self-advocating, teaching and helping others understand that we are all awesome in our own way. We all bring something cool and unique to this world…and we should all continue to reach for the stars and DREAM BIG![/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_5″ layout=”1_5″ last=”true” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” hover_type=”none” link=”” border_position=”all” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding_top=”” padding_right=”” padding_bottom=”” padding_left=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” class=”” id=”” border_sizes_top=”0px” border_sizes_bottom=”0px” border_sizes_left=”0px” border_sizes_right=”0px” first=”false” spacing_left=”2%” min_height=””][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
