Pilar Rivera: University of North Texas — ELEVAR (Wells Button Scholarship Award)

Pilar Rivera is this year’s recipient of the Wells Button Scholarship Award! This fall, she will begin her senior year at University of North Texas – ELEVAR, where she is studying education. Pilar is passionate about helping others and hopes to one day get a job and learn how to drive.

Pilar is a longtime athlete with Special Olympics, having competed since she was just 8 years old. Over the years, she has participated in gymnastics, swimming, unified bowling, and track and field. Her dedication has taken her to two Special Olympics USA Games (in 2018 in Seattle and in 2022 in Orlando) where she competed as a Level 3 gymnast.

One of Pilar’s proudest accomplishments is winning the international DADDS Student Achievement Award, recognizing her commitment and excellence. Outside of school and sports, Pilar enjoys dancing, going to church, and spending time with her friends.
