MJ Palmquist: Elmhurst University — ELSA: Elmhurst Learning and Success Academy

MJ is starting his freshman year at Elmhurst University in the ELSA program, where he will focus on independent living and communication skills. His goals include living on his own and finding a job he loves where he can work alongside people he enjoys spending time with.

A lifelong athlete and sports enthusiast, MJ plays ice hockey, basketball, soccer, and swims. He also loves training in the weight room. One of his proudest achievements was representing the United States in soccer as part of the Unified Football Team USA at the 2022 World Cup Games.

MJ is a certified athlete leader for Special Olympics Illinois and is passionate about advocacy and inclusion. He has spoken at numerous events, including serving as the featured athlete at the 2023 Champions Ball, where he addressed a room of over 300 donors and families. Proud of his extra chromosome, MJ is always ready to share the many things people with Down syndrome can do.

We can’t wait to cheer him on as he brings his leadership, athleticism, and determination to Elmhurst!
