Emily Bernacki: Independence College by On My Own of Michigan (Natters Matters Scholarship Award)

Emily Bernacki is a two-time Rockin’ Recipient and this year’s recipient of the Natters Matters Scholarship Award. Emily is entering her senior year at Independence College by On My Own of Michigan, where she’s focused on building her skills for independent living and future employment. 

One of Emily’s biggest accomplishments is landing her first paid job at a daycare in a fitness club. After graduation, she hopes to continue living in an apartment with a kind roommate and working a part-time job she loves.

Emily enjoys swimming, dancing, and traveling to visit family. She’s also incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement she’s received from Ruby’s Rainbow. She thinks Ruby and all the Rockin’ Recipients are “the bombdiggity” and hopes to inspire others with Down syndrome to dream big. College is really hard work, but the rewards make it all worthwhile.
