Jean Hauff – Augustana University Augie Access (William Yahnke Scholarship Award)

Jean is a three-time Rockin’ Recipient and this year’s recipient of the Ruby’s Rainbow William Yahnke Scholarship Award. After two years in the Compass program at Duquesne University, she is now in her first year in the Augie Access program at Augustana University, where she loves living away from home and developing her independence.

For other students with Down syndrome, Jean has this advice: “Work hard in school. Learn to follow your schedule. Plan your time for homework and responsibilities. Explore your interests and strengths.” Her advice for parents is to “encourage independence and decision making. Provide support for dreams. Let go—and let your son or daughter grow.”

That is excellent advice, Jean! You rock!
