Ankur Chandan – College Connections at Jefferson Community and Technical College
2020
Ankur is a two-time Rockin’ Recipient who attends the College Connections program at Jefferson Community and Technical College, where he maintained perfect attendance and a 4.0 GPA last year. This year, he will be taking courses in photography and music. His professors say he has a “high level of motivation and enthusiasm regarding education,” his “academic skills are excellent,” and he has “gone above and beyond as a self-advocate.” He is considering pursuing an Associate’s degree and plans to apply for the Special Olympics Kentucky Athlete Leadership Program in November 2020.
Ankur is active in Special Olympics, and in 2019 won multiple gold and silver medals in swimming, basketball and flag football. An avid dancer and pianist, he dances with the Boogie Down Dance Crew, and last fall played piano in a talent show organized by Down Syndrome of Louisville for an audience of 400 people. For other students with Down syndrome, Ankur has this advice: “Be yourself and never give up. You can do anything. Chase your dreams and work hard to become the person you want to be.” You rock, Ankur! We are so proud of you!
