2021

Dylan is a two-time Rockin’ Recipient and this year’s recipient of the Ruby’s Rainbow Warriors For Walt Scholarship Award. This fall he will begin his senior year at The Evergreen State College. He is on track to be the only student with Down syndrome in the state of Washington to graduate from a four-year college with a Bachelor of Arts degree. One of his goals is to speak at his graduation ceremony in June 2022!

Dylan has approached college slowly, initially taking just four credits per quarter to guarantee success. He has studied a wide range of interesting subjects throughout his college career, including Anatomy and Physiology; Child Development; Silk Roads: Culture, History and Philosophy of China; Western Films; Photography; Introduction to Electronics; Music, Ballet, Afro-Brazilian and Cuban Dance; Cultures and Communities of (Dis)Ability; Autobiography; and multiple writing classes.

As part of his Ruby’s Rainbow scholarship application, Dylan submitted a deeply moving, beautifully written autobiographical essay that gave insight into his personal growth and development. His advice for other students with Down syndrome is to “continue to dream big! Work on reading and writing skills, and you can do it.” We think that is great advice, Dylan—we can’t wait to see you rock it all the way to graduation!
