Gaahhhh our Rockin’ Recipients are just killin’ it lately!!! These updates are killing ME (in the best way possible)!!! ???????????? I am SO PROUD of ALL our scholarship recipients and all they have been accomplishing. Updates like this one, from 2017 Rockin’ Recipient Mary Borman, just make my ❤ feel full to bursting with so many emotions I can hardly put into words….but I’ll give it a try…

People like Mary, and Kayla McKeon (on the right with Mary, left, in the first pic), are making history by being incredible self-advocates who are doing truly important work. Work that is making life better for so many others who are rockin’ that extra chromosome. Simply by being lifelong learners who continue to pursue their interests (and in many cases, college credits/degrees), our incredible Rockin’ Recipients are helping to open doors for others with Down syndrome in the future – and to blast through any stigma or negative perceptions so their PURE AWESOMENESS can SHINE!!! And to have people like Mary (and Kayla, and others) repping their awesomeness on a national level, in D.C., helping to influence both public opinion and policy… Well, my heart is just overflowing with pride and gratitude for these trailblazers.

I feel like I’m not wording this very well, so here’s Mary’s email about what she got up to last month, in her own words:

“I went to Washington DC last week for the Adult Summit. I got to speak about volunteering, college and being part of the community. I also was awarded National Down Syndrome Society Self-Advocate of the year!!!

“I met with Senator Cotton, Senator Boozman, and Representative Steve Womack. I am going to be working in Representative Womack’s office this summer as an intern!!!!”

Ohhh my heart, you guys. So, so proud of this young lady right here.
