“Just be yourself and make new friends.”
October 15, 2019
Emily was introduced to sorority life because her older sister is a Sigma Kappa. Emily’s sister also attends Clemson, and Emily says, “She pushes me to always do better.”
One of her sorority sisters Hannah says that “Emily brings light to our chapter that nobody else has. Her personality lights up the room when she walks into it and she is always so happy and excited for every single event that she attends!! Personally, Emily showed me that even though she may be different than me in her development, she is exactly the same as me. She has her good days and her bad ones, but no matter what she bounces back from whatever is slowing her down. She has shown me that nothing is too difficult to be done.”
When we asked Hannah how she thought Emily was benefitting from being in a sorority she said: “I believe that she is able to have a greater connection to other members of the Clemson community. She is able to see for herself that she is accepted into a community of other girls just like her.”
Oh my mama’s heart!!!
Emily’s advice to a younger person with different abilities wanting to go to college? “Just be yourself and make new friends.” She also says to the parents: “I know it’s hard to let go of your children, but let them follow their dreams.”
