Hi, I’m Sarah, mama to two perfect little girls and wife to Matt. I’m a teacher-turned-stay-at-home-mom, and I have always been passionate about quality education for individuals with disabilities, having focused on special education in my undergrad and graduate degrees and worked with students of all abilities. This passion became so much more personal when we received a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome during my pregnancy with our first daughter, Hazel. The diagnosis was a shock of course, but it lit a fire in me to learn, advocate, and educate to the best of my ability. I love being involved with our local Down syndrome community, connecting with other families all over the world, and sharing our story of play and learning on Instagram (@learning.with.hazel).
I came across Ruby’s Rainbow on Instagram shortly after our diagnosis and followed along as Liz shared about the amazing Rockin’ Recipients. I was so moved by all that these adults were accomplishing and how bright their lights shine. Our little family is so inspired by the Recipients and we love that Hazel has some very amazing role models to look up to. Being part of the pledge gives us so much hope for the future for Hazel and we love being a part of such an incredible movement.
