We are the Boulton family! Bart, Lyndsay, Austin, Autumn, Asher, Aidan, Batri, Ruby and Conner (and we keep growing with the addition of our daughter in law Ki and grandson Novah).

When our oldest daughter Autumn walked into her kindergarten class, she was seated next to Luis, a wonderful boy who happened to have Down syndrome. Autumn and Luis became fast friends, and we became friends with his family too. We saw the joy that Luis brought to everyone around him, and we absolutely adored him. Fast-forward a decade, we decided to grow our family through adoption. We adopted our daughter Batri at the age of 4 from Ethiopia in 2011. In 2012 we got a phone call about a six-week-old little girl with Down syndrome who needed a family. We said yes immediately and brought Ruby home a few days later! About 9 months later we got another phone call about a 10-day-old little boy with Down syndrome and I went to pick up Conner the next day.

Because Luis was fully included in a typical classroom with our daughter many years ago, we knew what a gift Down syndrome was and we were so excited to have Ruby and Conner join our family. Now we can’t imagine life without them. We are thrilled to team up with Ruby’s Rainbow to raise money for young adults with Down syndrome to go to college. WE ARE EXCITED TO MATCH ALL DONATIONS UP TO $3000, and are hopeful to offer two scholarships in Ruby’s and Conner’s names.

Our experience is that the more the differently-abled participate in their communities and interact with their neighbors, the less fear and stigma there is in the world, and that is a gift to us all.
